The goal of Falling Blocks is to clear as many horizontal lines as possible by strategically placing falling blocks. Prevent the stack of blocks from reaching the top of the playfield for as long as you can to achieve a high score.
Use the arrow keys to control the falling blocks. The left and right arrow keys move the block horizontally across the grid. The up arrow key rotates the block. The down arrow key speeds up the block's descent, allowing you to quickly place it.
As you clear lines, your score increases, and you'll often advance to higher levels. Each new level makes the blocks fall faster, increasing the challenge and requiring quicker reactions. Plan your placements carefully to set up multi-line clears.
Press the spacebar to instantly drop the current block to the bottom of the playfield. This "hard drop" can be risky if not planned well, but it's essential for advanced play and quick line clears.
Look Ahead - Always check the 'next piece' display to plan your current block placement and anticipate the next one.
Create a Well - Leave a single column open on one side of the playfield to set up a "Tetris" (four-line clear) with the long I-shaped block.
Soft Drop Strategically - Use the down arrow key for a 'soft drop' to guide pieces into tight spots without instantly locking them. Master Rotations - Learn all possible rotations for each block type. Sometimes a piece fits better if rotated multiple times.
Practice Hard Drops - Use the spacebar for 'hard drops' to lock pieces instantly, but only when you're sure of the placement. Keep it Flat - Avoid building up uneven stacks with many gaps. A flat surface gives you more options for incoming blocks.
