Ludo is a classic online multiplayer board game where 2 to 4 players race their four tokens from start to finish according to the rolls of a single die.
This digital version of the beloved strategy game, similar to Parcheesi, brings the timeless fun of dice rolls and tactical moves to your browser for free.
The game begins with all four of your tokens in your colored starting yard. Your primary goal is to move each token clockwise around the entire board and up into your home column.
To move a token out of the yard and onto the starting square, you must first roll a 6.
Each turn, you roll the die and move one of your active tokens the corresponding number of spaces. If your token lands on a square occupied by an opponent, their token is captured and sent back to their starting yard.
However, some squares are marked as safe zones where tokens cannot be captured.
While Ludo involves luck with the dice, strategy plays a crucial role. Players must decide which token to move on each turn. Spreading your tokens across the board can be a good tactic, giving you more options for capturing opponents or blocking their path.
It's often wise to prioritize moving tokens that are furthest behind or in immediate danger.
Knowing when to be aggressive and when to play defensively is key. Capturing an opponent just before they reach their home can be a game-changing move.
Conversely, using a high roll to rush a token into the safety of your home column can secure your lead. The first player to get all four tokens home wins the game.
You can enjoy Ludo for free directly in your web browser. There's no need for any downloads or installations to play.
Because it runs on HTML5, it works smoothly on most devices, including Chromebooks at school or computers on a work network, allowing you to challenge friends or AI opponents anytime.
The goal in Ludo is to be the first player to move all four of your tokens from the starting yard, around the entire game board, and into the final home column.
This game is controlled entirely with your mouse. You left click to roll the die when it's your turn. After the die roll, you left click on one of your playable tokens to move it the corresponding number of spaces along the track.
To begin, you must roll a 6 to move a token from your yard to your starting square. Once a token is in play, you can move it on any subsequent roll. Rolling a 6 grants you an extra turn.
If you land on a square occupied by an opponent's token, you capture it and send it back to their starting yard. They will need to roll a 6 again to bring it back into play.
Squares with a star are safe zones where your tokens cannot be captured.
Get Tokens Out Early - Focus on rolling a 6 to move all your tokens out of the yard. Having more pieces on the board gives you more strategic flexibility. Spread Your Pieces - Avoid moving just one token all the way around.
Spreading them out makes it easier to block opponents and gives you multiple options for captures. Prioritize Captures - If you have the chance to capture an opponent's piece, especially one that's close to finishing, take it. This is a major setback for them.
Use Safe Zones - Plan your moves to land on the star-marked safe squares whenever possible, particularly if an opponent's token is right behind you.
Form Blockades - If you have two tokens close together, you can use them to create a blockade, making it difficult for opponents to pass without rolling the exact number needed.
Know When to Race Home - If one of your tokens is near the home column, prioritize moving it to safety over making a risky capture elsewhere on the board.
