Shoot the Zombie is a focused zombie shooter that strips the genre to its essentials - aim, shoot, score, repeat.
No complex narrative, no inventory system to manage, just an arcade survival format where the only thing standing between you and the wave count climbing is your aim and your reload timing.
The whole game is built around precise aiming. Headshots score more than body shots, distant targets reward leading, and certain zombie types only die from specific aim points (arms or legs to immobilize, head for instant kills).
The ranged precision is where the skill expression lives.
Early waves give you breathing room to learn the basic enemy types. Mid waves introduce fast runners that need quick target prioritization. Late waves combine multiple enemy types simultaneously, forcing you to switch targets rapidly.
The progression respects your time - you don't grind easy waves forever.
The game offers progressively powerful weapons but each one has limited ammo. Conservation matters - blasting through your shotgun ammo on a single weak wave leaves you with only the basic pistol when the boss appears.
Strategic weapon use, not just trigger discipline, defines higher-skill play.
The game runs in any modern browser via HTML5. No install, no plugin, no permissions. It plays well on Chromebooks, school PCs, library computers, and modern phones or tablets.
Mouse aiming on desktop offers the cleanest experience; mobile uses touch-to-aim, which works fine for casual play but is slower for precise headshots.
Aim with the mouse and click to shoot. Press R to reload your weapon, and use number keys to switch between picked-up weapons. The crosshair is your aim - hover over enemies to target them.
On mobile, tap-and-drag to aim and tap a fire button to shoot. Survive each wave by killing all zombies; pick up ammo dropped from kills.
Headshots First - Body shots take 2-4 hits depending on weapon; headshots are usually one-shot kills and conserve ammo dramatically. Reload During Calm - Don't reload while a fast zombie is closing the distance; create space first, then reload.
Learn Each Zombie's Hit Box - Some zombies have small heads (skinny shamblers) and others are large targets (brutes); aim accordingly. Save Special Ammo - Shotgun and rifle ammo is finite per wave; use them on the toughest enemies, not on the basic shamblers.
Don't Spray and Pray - Two careful aimed shots almost always beat ten panic shots; controlled fire conserves ammo and increases hit rate.
